The Worst Wavy Hair Product I Have Ever Used

Table of Contents
I know how difficult it gets to choose the right products for wavy hair. I agree that there are many product options available and we easily get overwhelmed by those choices.
I believe it is really important to maintain the health and appearance of our wavy hair because, without it, our hair texture spoils to the maximum. Similarly, with my exploration, I came across the Living Proof Curl Detangling Rinse
The appearance, the reviews by the attendees, the ingredients, and many features looked very promising. Unfortunately, it was the worst wavy hair product I have ever used.
At this point, it has been discontinued, and I believe it is because many others faced similar bad experiences that I did.
Keep reading where I will discuss more about the expectations, experience, short-term effects, issues that I faced, and the alternatives to choose, ahead.
Initial Expectations of the Worst Wavy Hair Product
I really got attracted to its lightweight and detangling rinse marketing. It promised how my hair would get smooth and I would get defined curls etc.
I don’t know about the other product ranges, but this one was among Living Proof’s Curl line, which is quite obviously designed for curly and wavy hair types.
I was quite impressed with its claim to detangle my hair without weighing it down, which certainly makes it easier to manage and style.
I made the mistake of buying the product first, and then later checking the reviews online. The reviews were quite mixed, a few were really nice, whereas, the others were not so cool.
I then decided to go with my gut feeling, manifesting it to work well since of course, Living Proof is a reputable brand, after all! I was quite excited to see the results on my 2a/2b waves.
The First Experience
As said above, I was so excited and skeptical at the same time to see how this rinse would perform. I tried following the instructions carefully by reading the back of the bottle.
I applied it to my wet hair and the rinse had a gel-like consistency, which I found easy to spread and distribute through my hair.
As mentioned on the pack, I left it in for a while before rinsing it out. I also noticed how the product had a subtle scent that was not really overpowering the texture.
I felt the texture to be really smooth and lightweight that I was able to work through my hair. However, I noticed that the rise did not really provide a good slip, which I believe is generally essential for detangling.
My hair immediately felt somewhat tangled, which is not the right result to be coming out of the detangling rinse. I was quite concerned about it and my mind kept playing the flashbacks of the bad reviews, lol.

Short-Term Effects
I was again quite hopeful thinking it would get better after styling it. My skeptical excitement soon turned out to be a disappointment.
My hair felt unusually dry, (it has NEVER been this dry), frizzy, and less defined than they usually are after using my regular conditioner.
The most immediate reactions were the frizz and dryness. I still remember how my hair felt super rough to touch, and my waves were not defined.
I found it to be quite surprising, considering how I believed such extreme and promising claims of this product to smooth and define the curls. I wondered if it needed more time to work its magic, but no. It was the same throughout.
Long-Term Effects
Even after the initial disappointment, I tried giving this curl-detangling rinse a fair chance by using it for a few weeks to see if it got any better.
Once again, the results did not improve. Each time I used it, my hair got drier and more tangled than the previous time.
In fact, the rinse only seemed to strip my hair of its natural moisture, rather than controlling or enhancing the overall condition.
Over time, I noticed my hair was becoming really difficult to manage. The tangles that I initially wanted to get rid of, were much more frequent and harder to remove.
All these, lead to more breakage whenever I tried to detangle my hair. My waves lost the natural shine that somewhat still existed before using this detangling rinse.
This product left my hair feeling more tangled which made it very clear that it was not a good fit for my hair.
Specific Issues Encountered
The most specific issues that I faced were mostly all about the tangling and increased breakage. Instead of detangling my hair, which was the main factor of this rinser, it caused more knots that caused breakage whenever I combed through my hair.
I feel there could be many reasons as to why this product failed my hair. I am thinking, was the formulation not suitable for a specific wave pattern? (2a/2b).
It did not have a good amount of slip and moisture that did not hydrate my hair enough. Apart from that, I think the ingredients could also be too harsh or incompatible to my hair needs.
Alternatives to Consider
I highly recommend SheaMoisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Shine Conditioner. It has worked incredibly in moisturizing and defining my waves.
Another great option I prefer is DevaCurl One Condition Original. It has an excellent sense of hydration and has a good slip as well. This made detangling my hair like a breeze.
Another thing I would say is, to avoid products with heavy silicones and sulfates at all costs. These weigh down your hair and strip natural moisture.
Conclusion
Living Proof Curl Detangling Rinse was, unfortunately, the worst wavy hair product I have ever used. It left my hair dry and tangled, and I experienced more breakage than usual. I really hope my experience will greatly help you in choosing the right products I have mentioned instead.
