Best Fall Tips for 2a 2b and 2c Wavy Hair!

Table of Contents

I know Fall is still months away, but I think it will be fun preparing for the hair care routines to change according to the season.

I know how difficult it is to maintain our beautiful 2a 2b and 3c wavy hair, and on top of that, it can be a pain during the change of seasons.

This is why we need a few tips to keep them healthy throughout. It can be the autumn dryness, frizz or just trying to keep them natural.

So, keep reading where I will talk about The Challenges, Products to Use, Products to Avoid, and The Fall Tips for 2a 2b and 2c Wavy Hair.

Understanding Your Wavy Hair Type

Characteristics of 2a, 2b, and 2c Hair

1. 2a Hair: Slightly Wavy, Fine Texture: I would say 2a hair is the loosest wave pattern. It is fine and it is less frequent to be frizzy.

I have the 2a pattern of wavy hair and I have known how the waves are subtle and barely there, which gives more of a tousled look.

2. 2b Hair: More Defined Waves, Medium Texture: Okay, so the 2b hair type has more of the S-shaped waves that are usually from the mid-lengths.

I believe this type often has a bit more volume and is usually more prone to frizz. It can get more difficult in hot or humid conditions.

3. 2c Hair: Deep Waves, Thick Texture: I have seen how the 2c hair is deeper with defined waves that usually border on curls. As in, it is more of a curly pattern than being wavy.

It is usually more thick and is more prone to frizz and dryness. I would suggest you use moisture-rich products that can keep the waves more defined and hydrated.

Common Challenges Faced by Each Type During Fall

I have noticed how as the temperature increases and the air gets more scorching, the 2a, 2b and 2c hair types face their own set of challenges because of its pattern.

I would say, for 2a hair, it will be more about maintaining the volume, without letting them weigh down.

For 2b hair, it can get a bit challenging to control the frizz while keeping the waves intact.

Lastly, I would say that the 2c hair, it will be about fighting the dryness and frizz to keep the waves looking lush and bouncy.

How Wavy Hair or Curly Hair May Change in Fall/Autumn

I would say it is because Autumn or Fall often brings lower humidity levels, which makes your hair drier.

Yes, the summer humidity may have made your hair more frizzy sometimes, but the dryness of fall can genuinely cause your hair to look brittle.

All of these can lead to dehydration. It is again, because the lower humidity levels in the air do not have moisture, at all.

Again, this is more noticeable and visible in the 2b or 2c pattern of wavy hair. The wind of autumn can also make your hair look more frizzy.

I believe the changes in your hair can depend on many factors. These include your location, the weather, age, hormones, stress, lifestyle, etc. A few changes that I have noticed were:

  1. The reduced definition of hair on your wave/curl pattern.
  2. You will notice that there will be less need for using the extra products.
  3. Sometimes, you will also notice how there is a high reduction in frizz.
  4. Due to the less humidity, your waves can go softer or subtle than the usual.

Fall Hair Care Routine

Shampooing and Conditioning

I have noticed how, during fall, I feel the need to wash my hair less to avoid stripping of natural oils.

I generally wash my hair 2-3 times a week using a sulfate-free shampoo. This way, it doesn’t dry my hair out. I would suggest you look for shampoos with hydrating formulas.

Deep Conditioning and Hair Masks

I feel Deep Conditioning is more like a staple for your fall hair care routine.

I use a Deep Conditioning Mask once a week to keep my hair hydrated and healthy. For masks, I use them once every two weeks. It generally depends on how dry your hair is.

I always go for Deep Conditioners that are rich in moisturizing ingredients like coconut oil, honey, and avocado. Saying so, because these ingredients properly nourish our scalp and moisturize our hair.

Recommended Ingredients/Products to Add

Hyaluronic Acid, Glycerin, and Natural Oils:

I have found these ingredients to be fantastic for adding and retaining moisture in my hair.

Hyaluronic acid has helped in moisturizing, and locking the glycerin, and the natural oils like jojoba and argan oil have deeply hydrated my hair.

Glycerin is great for our waves and curls. It is known to add in much-needed moisture during the Fall months and hence, I trust that with my hair.

Clarifying Shampoos:

I would say Clarifying shampoos are great for removing buildup, but it can also go harsh on the scalp if used too much or too often.

I would suggest you limit their use to once a month, which has been great during heavy product build-up.

Aloe:

I feel Aloe acts like a humectant that usually causes frizz during Summer but works like a charm for me during Fall or Autumn! Many people are sensitive to Aloe products or feel like it doesn’t suit them, I am guessing it must be because of the usage in the wrong season. I would suggest you try those products in the Fall.

Protein:

My hair is usually balanced with moisture that is necessary for my hair during Fall. For those whose hair faces a limp during fall, using a protein can be a great idea.

I usually use the SheaMoisture Manuka Yogurt Mask but you can use any good-quality protein mask that works.

I add a few drops of protein to rinse out my conditioner, and I would suggest you do the same. Using too much of the protein may get your hair rough.

Recommended Ingredients/Products to Avoid

Hair Butters:

Hair Butters are a BIG NO for me. I haven’t had a great experience using these, especially during Fall. My hair easily gets weighed down using the Hair Butter.

You can use Curl Enhancers like Cantu Curl Enhancer, but these butters can definitely lead to a weighed down and easily prone to build-up hair.

How to Get Your Best Fall Waves

Plopping, Diffusing, and Scrunching Methods:

I have found Plopping to help enhance my waves by forming the curls better while my hair is still drying. I use a microfiber towel or usually an old T-shirt and wrap them, letting my hair sit for 20-30 mins.

I, then, diffuse with a blow dryer on low heat. I only use low heat since that sets my waves without causing any frizz.

Then, I just scrunch my hair with a lightweight gel or mousse while it is still a little damp so that my waves are more defined.

Hair Ideas and Tutorials:

I usually style my hair loosely or use easy and comfortable hairstyles like braids, buns or twists, as they minimize the exposure to dry wind and my hair still seems stylish while reducing frizz.

Enhancing Waves with Minimal Heat Products:

I also enhance my hair additionally by using products that are designed for wavy hair, rather than using heat techniques.

I scrunch my hair with Ouai Wave Spray or a Texturizing Sea Salt Spray that give me more of a perfect beachy waves without causing any heat damage.

A few Fall Tips for 2a 2b and 2c Wavy Hair:

  1. Clarify your hair whenever needed, or when you feel the illness or build-up forming
  2. Add in a few drops of protein to rinse out your conditioner, but not too much.
  3. As said above, I diffuse my hair and this enhances my curls on a better level.
  4. I use a curl enhancer, as hair butters a BIG NO from me.
  5. I would suggest that you use less gel products and instead, you can use mousses.

Protecting Hair from Fall Elements

Impact of Fall Weather on Wavy Hair:

Fall weather is quite unpredictable and we never know the levels of humidity, and temperature swings.

All of these can definitely make your hair frizzy and dry, and I consider protective hairstyles as said above, to protect my hair.

Protective Measures:

1. Hats, Scarves, and Other Accessories: I usually wear hats and scarves that not only kept me warm but also protect my hair from wind and cold.

I use a silk or satin pillowcase that does wonders to my hair by preventing breakage. For added protection, I also wear my hair in a low bun or braid before putting on a hat.

2. Silk/Satin Pillowcases and Bonnets: I prefer a silk or satin pillowcase that works well for my hair, and would suggest the same. Unlike cotton, these materials cause less friction and are great for keeping the waves intact.

Conclusion

I know it can get truly difficult to maintain your hair during Fall. This is why I have come up with a few Fall Tips for 2a 2b and 2c Wavy Hair.

I am sure, with the right products and techniques that I have mentioned above, your waves can look so much more healthier, even during Fall.
